Modern Chair Design By The Humble Eero Aarnio Together With The Brilliant Ball Chair
If you ask someone on the street what type a chair is, the last answer you would attain get is a ball. After all, anybody who has ever attempted sitting on a ball as a child believes how tough, if not aching, it could be. Even if, with advances in creating technology and discovery of latest synthetic tools it is now probable for chairs and other furnishings to be worked into different forms. If you need further evidence, you only need to take a passing stare at the Ball Chair.
One of the most prominent furniture creations of the 20th century, the Ball Chair is a lounge chair which is essentially, as its label suggests, a big, hollow ball. The chair is finished from laminated fiberglass, a composite material made up of synthetic polymer and glass fibers identified for its lightweight and solidity. The interior of the Ball Chair is lined with either fabric or leather cushions, and is fixed at the bottom with a capacious fiberglass pedestal. In addition, earlier creation models of the Ball Chair were inaugurate with a plastic telephone on the inner side, though modern re-editions of the chair have replaced it with more advanced appliances such as digital media players.
The Ball Chair was made in 1963 by Finnish interior designer Eero Aarnio, and was basically intended for private use in his home. A prototype was first composed of plywood which in turn was employed to mold the final fiberglass paradigm via a process alike to that used in preparing wings and fuselages for light aircraft. The chair was later exhibited at the 1966 International Furniture Fair in Cologne, Germany, where it was accepted quite warmly and renowned Aarnio as a top-tier furniture creator.
