There seems to be an endless amount of choices when it comes to drawer slides if yours are worn out it is an easy yet sometimes frustrating job to replace them.
In order to get the right Cabinet Hardware you will
need to know if your cabinets are framed or frameless.
A framed cabinet you can see a border around your doors this border is usually about 11/2 inches wide a frame less cabinet does not have a border the front edge of the cabinet simply ends at the front about ¾ of an inch wide.
The easiest way to replace them is with the same style that originally came with your drawers. Remove your troublesome drawer and both parts of the slide one part is on the drawer and the other part is mounted to the cabinet. I recommend you take both sides with you to the hardware store and match up a set just like you have. This is the simplest way.
Unfortunately not everything is so simple if you want to replace with the newer ball bearing full extension slides you may have to do some extensive modifications to the cabinet.
The drawer slides that mount under the drawer can be easily converted but the side mount slides run into a problem with spacing.
One of the most common problems with drawer slides is the cabinet itself the mounting area tends to break causing the slide to fail you may have to glue or screw in a new mounting block to attach your new slide.

Many new and improved cabinet hardware products have been introduced in
the last few years to replace
The old. I will explain how to replace some of these new products.
Replacing knobs drawer pulls.
Replacement of knobs and drawer pulls is very easy most can be accomplished with a screwdriver.
If you are replacing your cabinet hardware and not your doors it is best to locate new hardware that mounts in the same screw holes as the old otherwise you will have to contend with unsightly screw holes. If you are repainting you can fill these holes and paint over them and use any type of new cabinet hardware you like.
Generally a screw is all that holds the old knob in place this can be accessed from the inside of the door or drawer simply remove the screw and replace the knob with the new one and new screw.
If you are installing new cabinet hardware that mounts in a different place or configuration I recommend making or buying a jig (template) so all of your cabinet hardware is mounted in the same place on each door or drawer. These jigs are available at Home Depot or Lowes.

If your cabinet hardware, doors and drawers are beyond help or you just want a new style you can purchase doors and new cabinet hardware and keep your existing cabinet boxes.
Refinish: Refinishing your old cabinet doors reguires a lot of hard work how much depends on the finish that is on the doors already.
If you want to paint the doors it may not be nessecary to remove the old finish completely it depends on the amount of old paint on them.
Step one remove the doors and drawer fronts that you wish to refinish if they were stained originally you will have to sand off the old finish. I recommend you start with 150 grit sand paper and work your down to 220. If the old cabinets have been painted you may want to look at a paint remover.
Be sure to fill any screw holes cracks prior to painting or staining.
Note when painting or staining you need to have proper ventilation and preferably a dust free enviorment.
When painting cabinets I prefer to use the spray method this leaves a nice smooth finish, a roller will leave an orange peel texture and a brush will leave brush strokes.
Allow the paint to dry and check for any defects. Any defects paint runs should be taken care of at this time.
Reinstall your doors and drawer fronts.
Staining Your cabinets: there are many types of stains on the market today I prefer to use the Minwax line it is readily available in most all hardware stores. That being said I prefer to use the oil base line and then apply clear coat finish once the stain dries.
A good polyurethane clear coat will give you years of hard service follow the direction on the can and you will get a good result
