Relocating: With Professional vs. Friends and Family

If you have to move all your belongings from one place to another one, you will probably find out it’s not easy at all, but as an experienced real estate agent from Vancouver, I have gained valuable knowledge on how to manage this complicate issue. As with everything, there are always some experiences proven by years of practice that can help you to accomplish this difficult task successfully. So we have prepared a series of articles about all the different aspects of moving, including the cost, the insurance, how to choose among the professionals and other issues.

In our first text, we will focus on the key decision concerning moving: can you do it yourself, or is it better to get professionals to help you? First think about your own resources – how much money, time and labor can you use for the moving? These are the most important aspects.

Before you decide how you will organize your moving, we recommend that you write down and determine how much stuff you will need to move, and then think about the following questions:

– How long will you need for packing?
– Can you deal with the furniture?
- Have you any unusual, expensive or heavy items that require special attention, such as pianos or the collection of art?
– Is there anyone from your family members or friends living nearby, who could give you a hand over the weekend?
– For the moving, you will need a large car – do you trust yourself driving something like that?
- Will you manage to realize your move during the weekend or will you have to take some time off work?

All these questions have to be asked and depending on the answers, you will know which method is the best for you.

In general, there are three options:

1. Full-service movers

There are plenty of companies out there that will be willing to help you with the whole operation, including packing your belongings, loading them onto the vehicle, driving it down to your new location, unloading and unpacking it. Expensive as it is, this is the number one method for those with no friends or relatives available to help with moving or simply with no time getting involved yourself. You can expect the company to take care of all the packaging material, straps and all the necessary equipment needed. You just let the do their work, that’s all you have to do.

2. Self-service movers

This method involves some level of activity on your side. Each company may be supplying a different level of service. On the one hand, there are companies that only provide you the vehicle with a chauffeur, while packing, loading & unloading is entirely up to you. On the other hand, the service may involve assistance with loading & unloading, which you will appreciate particularly in regard to the heavy furniture. This method is great for clients who feel they need to control the whole process more, and naturally the price is also much lower than in the case of the full-service.

3. Do-It-Yourself

You can save a fortune if you decide to deal with the whole moving process all by yourself. In any case, first think about some questions: how many things you need to move and how far, how many people are willing to help you, and so on, before you make any decision. This is a good way to go for people moving from a small flat or home. Nevertheless, in case you are moving from a 5-bedroom home and far away, we would recommend you to hire some professionals. Whatever method you decide for, it’s never too soon to start budgeting. So in our following article, we will focus on the costs of moving.

Hints and Tips to Stage Your Master Bedroom

With minimal furniture in the room, the main bedroom is usually the easiest rooms in the home to stage. Even though this room is simple to stage it doesn’t mean you can put a half hearted attempt into it.

Before focusing on the requirements of the possible buyer you need to clean the room and remove any clutter and your personal style. A room that gives the idea of space, coziness and neutrality, with maybe a hint of romance, is your goal.

Making a room more relaxed is usually accomplished by wall colors. White or white with a hint of color make walls seem peaceful and neutral. Bold colors like red or yellow are too fanciful and should definitely not be used. Sheets, throws, blankets and bed covers should also be neutral but there is no reason why a bright pillow cover can’t be used to brighten the area up.

Giving free movement around the bedroom is achieved by removing restrictions on the floor. However little a area may be, successful staging can give the image of space. Remove any furniture that is not needed and leave behind only the indispensable items such as the closet and the bed. Any marks on the carpet need to be cleaned and depressions from furniture removal need to be dealt with as well as making sure the door opens easily and the bed is away from the doorway.

Unless the bedroom is very little make sure the bed is king or queen sized. if it is small then refrain making the room look even littler and use a double bed. A bed is the predominant focal spot in a bedroom, so make sure it looks as great as it can do. Invest in new bedding and even consider a new headboard, but unless you are very confident in your eye for style, consult with a professional stager before you go shopping.

The next act would be to clear the closets and shelves if there are any and leave just a few bits of clothing, mainly as decoration. Use wooden or padded hangers in your closet, admittedly these could cost a little more, they give a favorable impression.

Using Granite Slabs In Home Decor

Not every homeowner thinks of granite slabs when they’re designing their kitchen or contemplating some sort of home renovation. Yet granite is such a strong material and there are so many beautiful colors and patterns, so it’s surprising there isn’t more use of this stone in home design. However, the usage is growing, as people realize all the advantages of using this material for things like kitchen countertops, bathroom vanity tops, and other areas of the home that require surfaces of strength and durability, along with beauty.

Granite slabs may not be as expensive as you fear, even though they generally aren’t cheap. If you look around at several home supply stores, you may find granite blocks that have chips in the surface or other flaws, which would likely mean a considerable markdown in price. The flaws might not even be visible once the granite countertop installation is complete. Another way of getting a good price is to ask a supplier when they’re changing from old to new inventory, because the old pieces will sell for much less under such circumstances.

Keep your decor or your renovation plans in mind as you look for these less expensive granite blocks and slabs, and you should be able to find some that will work well with your colors and design ideas. What makes this stone such a striking design element, in addition to the vaunted strength and durability, is that granite colors are never exactly the same from slab to slab. Each piece will add unique texture and richness to the look of your decor. This stone is a great addition to many areas of the home, such as with kitchen planning, as amazing sinks, back splashes and countertops are all possibilities that will look awesome with stainless steel appliances.

When you have chosen the granite slabs you want for the kitchen and bathroom, they will also need to be sized, polished and sealed, and you’ll need to arrange for them to be cut to fit the locations where they will be placed. The supplier will likely make delivery and installation arrangements, but if you do have to do this yourself, then exercise great care with these very heavy stones blocks. Additionally, when the stone is properly sealed, cleaning granite won’t be much different from cleaning counters made of other materials, though you’ll need to take heed of the manufacturer’s instructions. If you’ve chosen carefully, and follow the proper maintenance tips, your granite pieces should endure for as long as your home stands.

Buying Furniture On The Internet

Buying furniture for private or public spaces is a big step and it is important to choose a compatible furniture supplier. Furniture suppliers can take you through the entire process of choosing and installing the furniture into your property, helping you choose a theme or style, picking the best pieces to suit your specification, manufacturing and delivering the furniture to your door step. A furniture supplier should act like a partner in the design process, not simply the provider of distinct pieces and below are three tips to help you choose one.

Traders and private consumers are attracted to trade shows because of the varied exhibitions they hold. Annual furniture trade shows are a chance for countries to display their best designs and their culture. British trade shows occur in its major cities and the capital. Elsewhere in the world you can witness furniture trade shows in major furniture producing countries from Germany to China. The Contract World show in Germany is great for those in charge of large buildings or chains whilst the ZOW show in China attracts 8000 traders each year.

You will gain inspiration from these trade shows as well as networking with potential furniture suppliers.

One of the soundest marks of quality and good service can be ascertained through referrals and friend’s advice. If you have seen a piece of furniture which you like, ask who the supplier is. There will usually be just one furniture supplier who has decked out a chain of pubs, offices, hotels and so on. If you like the furniture that a friend has recently purchased, do not feel embarrassed to ask them where they got it from. It is more than likely that if you like the style of one piece of a supplier’s furniture, you will like the other pieces that they make, so you won’t have to copy your friend.

If you look through the business directories normally attached to the phone book you can get in touch with the suppliers and ask them to send you a brochure. Decide if you want to go with a certain supplier only after going to their showroom and speaking to an advisor.

Do not rush the decision over which furniture suppliers are right for you because the furniture you pick will be with you for years.
